HALE CENTRE THEATRE’S “CASH ON DELIVERY!” TO OPEN WITH NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATION
Production Will Pause for Midnight Countdown and Singing of “Auld Lang Syne”

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah(Dec. 16, 2008)Hale Centre Theatre, Utah’s premier family theatre, will kick off its 2009 theatre season with the Tony-Award-winning comedy, “Cash on Delivery!,” at two special New Year’s Eve performances, Dec. 31, at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. The night also includes noisemakers, deluxe refreshments, singing and pre-show entertainment.

As the New Year approaches, a pre-selected audience member will interrupt the 10 p.m. production and lead holiday revelers in a countdown followed by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Following the celebration, the play will continue.

“I can’t think of a more fun way to ring in the New Year than with family, friends and a lot of laughter watching this hilarious comedy,” said Sally Dietlein, executive producer, Hale Centre Theatre. “A New Year’s comedy, spiced with a great celebration, has attracted a large crowd each year since the tradition began in 1985.”

The festivities will include pre-show entertainment by band Lokalgrown, party hats, noisemakers and refreshments by The Iron Gate Grill. Tickets for the New Year’s Eve performances are $33 for the 6 p.m. show and $41 for the 10 p.m. show, with discounted upgrade pricing for 2009 season ticket holders.

“Cash on Delivery!” (1997) is a fast-paced, physical comedy by British playwright and screenwriter, Michael Cooney. The story centers on an unlikely scam artist in Great Britain, Eric Swan, who assumes identities and disabilities to collect government assistance checks and to avoid telling his wife he is unemployed. The con seems fail proof until Swan’s caseworker shows up. Swan is forced to enlist other creative characters to play the unfortunate souls he’s created. The play was a favorite when last performed at HCT in 2000.

“Cash on Delivery!” is directed by Leslie Warwood and stars Cody Carlson as Eric Swan and Justin Bruse as Norman McDonald. Additional credits include: Peggy Willis, costume designer; Kacey Udy, set designer; Spencer Brown, lighting designer; and Mike Williams, sound designer.

The production runs Dec. 31, 2008 through Feb. 14, 2009. Nightly performances after the New Year’s Eve celebration are Monday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and run through Feb. 14, 2009, except the evening of Jan. 1, when the theatre will be closed in observance of New Year’s Day.
