Singing: Students will be introduced to the basic components behind proper vocal technique. Using a variety of exercises, they will begin exploring their own musicality and rhythm. Emphasis will be placed on ear training and breath support. More advanced concepts such as harmony are added as students work on specific songs.
Theater Dance/Movement: Younger students will be taught to utilize their bodies to find their mental and physical centers while developing their imagination and focus. Older students will be provided with a working knowledge of the essential elements involved in dance for the theater. Styles may include jazz, modern and hip hop.
Theater Art: Students will create theater-related projects such as props, masks and puppets, which they will use as part of their production class.
Production Class: Students will spend up to two hours a day in rehearsal for scenes and musical numbers to be performed at the recital as part of a "mini musical". Elements from all other classes will be incorporated into each production.
Special Seminars & Theatre Skills: Students will spend one hour each day with instructors and guest speakers, performers and/or designers who will demonstrate and/or teach their specialty. Topics may include audition techniques, stage combat and "behind-the-scenes" elements such as set, costume, makeup, sound/light design, magic and clowning.
Talent Shows: The first Friday of each session will include a talent show in which students will perform for each other.
Showcase: The last Friday of each session, students will participate in a recital on our main stage. In order to give all students a chance to perform, the showcase will be composed of a series of scenes and musical numbers. In lieu of costumes, students will wear their Hale Centre Theatre T-shirt with denim jeans, overalls or shorts.
