Three eight-week sessions in Acting, Dance and Voice are offered weekday afternoons and Saturdays from September through May for ages  4 - Adult. Youth classes culminate with a showcase at the end of each session. Each student also receives a Hale Centre Theatre T-shirt.

Two workshops for teens and adults, Audition Techniques and Voice for the Actor, are offered in the summer.

A Pre-K Performing Arts Class for ages 4 and 5 is also taught in the summer.

Performing Arts Classes offered

Pre-K Performing Arts Class

Pre-K Performing Arts Class

A basic introduction to drama, dance and singing for four and five year olds. Students perform at an end of session showcase.

Acting Class (six to nine year olds)

Acting Class (six to nine year olds)

Students participate in theatre games and acting exercises such as story dramatization, to develop their imaginations and creativity. Students perform at an end of session showcase.

Acting Class (ten to twelve year olds)

Acting Class (ten to twelve year olds)

Students participate in theatre games and acting exercises such as story dramatization, to develop their imaginations and creativity. Students perform at an end of session showcase.

Acting Class (twelve to seventeen year olds)

Acting Class (twelve to seventeen year olds)

Students work on developing character, improvisation and auditioning skills. Monologues and/or two-person scenes are performed at the end of session showcase.

Acting Class (adults)

Acting Class (adults)

Students work on character and scene development. Monologues, improvisations and/or two-person scenes are performed in class during each session.

Musical Theater Dance (teen-adults)

Musical Theater Dance (teen-adults)

This class explores the vocabulary and techniques of dance used in musical theatre auditions and productions. Students may perform a dance routine at an end of session showcase.

Hip Hop (teens-adults)

Hip Hop teens-adults)

This class explores the vocabulary and techniques of this new dance craze as seen in music videos and on “So You Think You Can Dance”. Students may perform a dance routine at an end of session showcase.

Adult Tap Dance (I, II, III)

Adult Tap Dance (I, II, III)

Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced classes explore the vocabulary and techniques of tap dance. The advanced class is geared for Ladies over 40 years of age. Students will need to provide their own tap shoes.

Teen/Adult Voice

Teen/Adult Voice

Students will be introduced to the basic components behind proper vocal technique. Using a variety of exercises, they will begin exploring their own musicality. Emphasis will be placed on ear training and breath support. Students work on specific songs in a group setting and have the option of performing them at the end of session showcase.

Beginning Stage Combat

Beginning Stage Combat

deals with the basics of stage combat, including fist-a-cuffs (face and stomach punching, elbow smashes, kicking, choking, throwing and falling), posture, movement and stage presence (body awareness). There is an emphasis on realism, extreme physicality and, above all, safety--including to the safe handling of swords and knives. Various aspects of acting and characterization, vocalization and theatre discipline relating to Stage Combat and the rehearsal process are also covered.

Advanced Stage Combat

Advanced Stage Combat

involves the utilization of the skills introduced in the beginning course and thus the beginning course will be a prerequisite. It includes rapier swordplay, entailing the style of fighting utilized in many HCT productions. The safe and proper handling of swords, both on stage and off, is intensely covered. Period physicality and body posturing, as well as extreme physicality is also emphasized. Participants should expect to be tired and sweaty!

Students will be taught to utilize their bodies to find their physical and mental centers while developing their focus and imagination.

SINGING FOR ACTORS

SINGING FOR ACTORS

Three 2-hour sessions of basic techniques in vocal production, breathing and relaxation, as well as vocal coaching on song choice, interpretation and presentation. Come prepared with 16 bars of a song (with sheet music).

AUDITION WORKSHOP

AUDITION WORKSHOP

Three 2-hour sessions focusing on basic audition techniques such as: selection, interpretation and presentation of material; cold readings; photos and resumes; overcoming stage fright; etc. Come prepared with a 60 second monologue (memorized).

A basic introduction to drama, dance and singing for four and five year olds offered three days a week for two weeks. Students perform at an end of session showcase.

Prices include a Hale Centre Theatre T-shirt. There are discounts available for taking more than one class at the same time and for more than one student from the same family.

Tuition must be paid in full by the Friday preceding each session. No enrollments will be taken the first day of classes.
